Profhilo Treatment is a highly purified injectable hyaluronic acid skin booster. With special patented NAHYCO® technology, Profhilo functions to hydrate the skin from inside, like an internal moisturiser, and stimulates the production of elastin and collagen. Together this helps improve skin tone and skin laxity and results in glowing, radiant, smooth skin.
What are the main differences between Profhilo and Fillers?
There is actually just one similarity between the two; they are actually very different anti-ageing treatments. Both fillers
and Profhilo involve Hyaluronic Acid
being injected to undo signs of ageing,
this is where the similarities stop.
The type of Hyaluronic Acid used in dermal filler injections is thicker and more viscous than the runny consistency of Profhilo injections. And the Hyaluronic Acid that you’ll find in fillers is combined with other ingredients, unlike the highly concentrated and purified Hyaluronic Acid used for Profhilo. So, whilst hyaluronic acid is the star of the show in both injectables, the Hyaluronic Acid used for each is very different.
Secondly, with fillers, only one area is focused on at a time. But, Profhilo treatment isn’t restricted to just one place. What Profhilo actually does is plump, refresh and tighten the whole face. This is because once the Profhilo injections have delivered their 10 shots of hydration, the Hyaluronic Acid starts to disperse underneath the skin, spreading its moisturising magic across the whole face.
Whilst dermal fillers are used for altering the shape of facial features, replacing lost volume
due to ageing and contouring, Profhilo doesn’t have any role in volumising or restructuring
the face.
HOW DOES PROFHILO WORK?
Think of Profhilo like taking a really hydrating moisturiser and, instead of applying it on top of your skin, injecting it into your skin for rejuvenation.
Profhilo attracts water into the deeper layers of the skin while stimulating four different kinds of collagen and elastin production. Together there can be a tightening and lifting effect while giving skin that luminous glow.
HA is hydrophilic, meaning it draws and holds water from your body, so Profhilo acts as a
hydrator rather than a filler. This makes it fantastic for those with tired, dull-looking skin,
transforming it into firm and luminous skin. This effect takes place within 3-5 days of
treatment.
Over the next few weeks collagen and elastin production is stimulated, producing a
secondary effect of skin tightening. This is useful because levels of collagen, elastin and
Hyaluronic Acid in the skin rapidly drop from the age of 30, resulting in signs of ageing such
as fine lines, wrinkles and lacklustre skin. Profhilo acts to reverse some of these changes. The
maximum effect of Profhilo is usually seen 3 months after the third treatment.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PROFHILO?
Treatment with Profhilo improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can
help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin.
Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also be used to rejuvenating the
neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.
WHAT DOES PROFHILO TREATMENT INVOLVE?
Profhilo is injected just below the skin’s surface over 3 sessions 4 weeks apart. After injection
it disperses quickly beneath the skin to improve hydration, without any need for massage or
risk of leaving lumps or nodules. Profhilo is absorbed within a 2cm radius of its injection site,
so to treat the face only 10 injection points are needed in total.
A single course of Profhilo involves 3 injectable treatments 4 weeks apart, after which you
can expect to see an intense hydration. It makes the skin glow, fine lines can disappear and
you’ll notice smoother, tighter skin. Courses of three treatments can be repeated every six
months as needed to maintain the results.
WHAT ABOUT RECOVERY?
The downtime following a treatment is minimal, and you should be able to return to normal
‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, we recommend that you
avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna
or steamy bath for the first few days. You should also avoid intense sun or UV light exposure
for the first few days after treatment.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE-EFFECTS?
As with all non-surgical aesthetic treatments there is a risk of side-effects, such as minor
bruising or swelling at the injection sites. These do not usually occur and generally subside
quickly when they do.
Profhilo is metabolised by the body completely.
No allergy test is required prior to treatment. The risk of allergic reactions is substantially reduced because Profhilo does not contain any synthetic chemicals which some people might react to.
WHAT ARE CONTRAINDICATIONS?
Patients with bleeding disorders or a compromised immune system due to, for example, infectious diseases, cancer, HIV or diabetes should consult their doctor before considering Profhilo.
Cosmetic injectable treatments are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding,
or people who are allergic to Hyaluronic Acid.
As with any procedure, it is important to find an experienced and qualified practitioner to carry out the treatment.
